Are Moon Boots Making a Comeback? Really?

January 11, 2010 Leave a comment

As Uggs start to lose a bit of their luster, moon boots from the 90s may be inching their way back on the fashion scene, according to Grazia magazine. There are several styles and brands of moon

boots, from Technica ($99-$300) to Juicy Couture ($195) to Napoleon Dynamite Costume Moon Boots at WalMart ($13). I even searched online to find that Saks Fifth Avenue and Bloomingdale’s are out of stock. Piperlime has green, red and navy Technica Moon Boots on sale for $99, reduced from $130.

Does this officially confirm that moon boots are making a comeback? As temperatures across the country continue to drop this winter, they may be just the ticket to staying warm…in snow-friendly fashion (even if many women wear them with only leggings).

Beauty School Students Angered Over Reality Show Pitch

January 8, 2010 Leave a comment

Let’s just say the students at Alameda Beauty College are not happy. According to KTVU.com in Oakland, CA, owners of the beauty school submitted a written proposal for a reality show about the school and registered it with the Writers Guild of America, but students from the school got hold of the pitch document and were angered by it.

KTVU says the pitch “outlines proposed episodes which mention specific people’s names. Some episodes detailed student successes, but others described students and employees as thieves, prostitutes, ‘ghetto’ or foul-mouthed people.”

Click here for the full story from KTVU.

I highly doubt this will come to fruition, but do you think a beauty school reality show like this could out-dramatize MTV’s Real World (the show many of us watched at one point in our lives and may still secretly watch)?

My Favorite Everyday Necklace! And Great Gifts

January 6, 2010 2 comments

Are you looking for a great everyday necklace? I absolutely love the Dogeared collection. I have the Karma necklace in silver (see photo), and it’s my favorite everyday necklace ($50-$70)! I almost bought it in gold too. Nordstrom carries the Dogeared necklaces or you can order them online from Dogeared. One of my other favorites is the Pearls of Success. It’s a great gift for that person bound to have a successful and prosperous 2010!

Check the Dogeared website for weekly specials on other jewels and gifts that have been featured in leading beauty and fashion magazines and have “graced the necks of celebrities, stylists, film and TV stars everywhere,” according to their website. It’s worth checking out, especially as they have such a selection of jewelry gifts for nearly every occasion.

Taylor Swift Has Many Styles

The 19-year-old country music singer truly is talented (and is known to turn heads with her sense of fashion and style). She’s sold out shows, won numerous awards,  hosted Saturday Night Live, appeared on the cover of magazines such as Allure, Self, Glamour, Teen Vogue, People…the list goes on.

Even John Mayer speaks highly of the young artist and included her in a track on his new album. John Mayer tells Access Hollywood’s Maria Menounos in an interview, “I don’t normally make records to share tracks with people. I’ve never had somebody’s name underneath the title of my song and I couldn’t be happier that she’s on there.”

In addition to her red carpet style adored by her fans, she’s also not afraid to change up her singing “style” either.

Who could forget her opening act “Thug Story” at the 2009 CMT Music Awards with T-PainCheck it out here…it’s worth it. My favorite line?  “You don’t wanna fight me…in my extra small white T.”

Seven Top-Rated Drugstore Mascaras From BellaSugar

January 3, 2010 1 comment

BellaSugar shares which drugstore mascaras are the most affordable and work the best. Click here to read the seven that scored the highest based on product reviews of 625 mascaras.

I haven’t tried each of the highest scoring mascaras, but I have to disagree with #2 on the list – L’Oreal’s Double Extend Lash Extension Effect Mascara. This mascara uses “tube technology.” It says it “does not clump or smudge and only requires water to remove.”

I have tried this mascara. Although it did lengthen my lashes, I found it somewhat difficult to remove with water. I didn’t like the “tube technology” either. I felt as if I were pulling out my eye lashes each time I tried to remove it. This probably wouldn’t make my list as a top-rated mascara. However, I am a fan of many L’Oreal products, so maybe it’s just me…

Four Simple Beauty Tips from InStyle

January 1, 2010 2 comments

In a recent issue of InStyle magazine, I discovered three interesting beauty tips worth sharing!

1. No more towel turban! Wrapping your hair in a towel after a shower (yes, I’m guilty) causes hair breakage as the strands break off in the fabric’s little loops. It’s recommended that you pat your hair dry lightly (don’t rub) instead of using the towel.

2. The cure for flyaways in your hair? A dryer sheet. It prevents flyaways in your hair just as it prevents static in your clothes. Put a dryer sheet through the bristles on your brush before styling.

3. When washing your hair, massage your scalp in circular motions. Massaging your scalp back and forth can contribute to premature hair loss.

4. To make your nails appear longer and thinner, wear a darker polish and leave a narrow space between the nail color and cuticles.

Thanks InStyle for the great advice.
