Payless Shoes To Launch Beauty Line in September

March 8, 2010 Leave a comment

Payless ShoeSource LogoPayless ShoeSource plans to launch a line of 60 beauty and body products in 1,500 of its 4,500 stores in September 2010. The retailer has partnered with a beauty company (Maesa Group) to develop products under two existing brand names already sold in Payless stores: Zoe and Zac (eco-friendly shoes and accessories) and Unforgettable Moments (a collection of dyeable bridal shoes).

The line will consist of lotions, creams, butters, shower gels, fragrances, nail polish and lip and eye colors, starting at $2.99. The company decided to launch a beauty line after a successful expansion of its accessories line in 2009 (i.e. sunglasses, hats, hand bags and scarves).

I’m curious as to how this new beauty line will differ from the many other discount lines currently sold in drugstores. For some reason, Wet n Wild immediately comes to mind when I think of this new beauty line offered by Payless. What are your thoughts? Would you buy makeup at Payless?

Inexpensive Lip Gloss I Bought on a Whim…and Love

While I was on my way to work this morning, I reached in my bag to find some type of lip balm and pulled out my L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Lip Gloss. As I was applying it, I was reminded as to how much I like it. In fact, it’s been my go-to lip gloss on many occasions the past few months.

I purchased this lip gloss on a whim last November. I was in New York City for work and had  lost one of my favorite lip glosses, which isn’t all that surprising given I tend to “misplace” these types of things quite frequently. It wasn’t until after dinner the same day, when I was headed back to my hotel, that I realized I had no lip gloss and was going to the Today Show the next morning to meet Kathie Lee and Hoda backstage.

Given it was late at night, my options were limited. I walked into the nearest DUANEreade to merely see what they had to offer and walked out with L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Lip Gloss in Soft Nude. Like I said, I purchased it on a whim and didn’t know what to expect. But it was just what I was looking for. I love it! And it was the finishing touch I needed for the special occasion the next morning. In addition to meeting Kathie Lee and Hoda, I also met the lead singer of Train as they performed “Hey Soul Sister” live on the show. Check out the video clip here.

What I love most about this lip gloss is that it’s:

L'Oreal Paris Colour Riche Lip Gloss in Soft Nude

  • Without scent or taste
  • Infused with Omega 3 and protective Vitamin E, keeping my my lips soft, moisturized and shiny
  • Creamy, but not sticky!
  • Very sheer, with just a hint of color. I most often wear it alone for a natural (but sophisticated) everyday look, but also layer it on top of lipstick for a night out
  • Available at drugstores
  • Only $5.99 (and is often on sale for less!)

I would definitely purchase this lip gloss again! Now, you’re probably wondering what I was doing at the Today Show with Hoda and Kathie Lee…

A Key Ingredient in Effective Anti-Aging Products

March 4, 2010 1 comment

Many StyleVise members have asked  for recommendations on anti-aging products, including eye and night creams. Therefore, I thought it would be helpful to share this tidbit about peptides, a key ingredient found in many anti-aging products.

What are peptides?
Peptides are small chains of amino acids that signal natural processes in the skin. As we age, we produce less collagen. Peptides help stimulate collagen to plump and firm the skin. They can now be found in a range of skin care products (e.g. medical, department store, or supermarket skin care products). Peptides are the most expensive raw materials currently used in cosmeceutical skincare.

Are there different types of peptides?
Yes. Different types of peptides influence different types of processes. For example, there are peptides that increase collagen production and there are peptides that decrease inflammation. Palmitoyl Hexapeptide-14 and Acetyl Hexapeptide-3 are peptides that send signals to increase collagen. By the way, we start producing less collagen in our 20s.

What should I look for when shopping for effective anti-aging skin care?
The product formula must contain a clinically-efficacious dose of peptides for skin care products to be effective. Unfortunately, as mentioned above, peptides are extremely expensive, so many companies include ineffective concentrations of peptides for the sole purpose of being able to claim “peptides” on the label. Formulations containing clinically-proven levels can be pricey. So, more often than not, you get what you pay for. By the way, the eyes are among the first places to show signs of aging, including dark under-eye circles, puffiness and crow’s feet. Therefore, many suggest using an anti-age eye cream after the age of 20.

It enhances color while giving hair fullness (great for thinner hair) and shine. And given spring is just around the corner, it also helps with frizz in humid weather. Apply this alcohol-free mousse to towel-dried hair. Then comb through and blow dry/style. By the way, Pureology products are 100% Vegan and made with organic botanicals.

One lucky StyleVise reader will be selected at random (approx. value $22). To enter, just leave a comment below which completes this sentence:
